Night News Editor (6 month FTC) – Financial Times (London)

The role

We are looking for a news editor to join the night news team in London on a 6 month fixed term contract.

You will play an important role within the team led by Andrew Parker that involves running the FT UK homepage and app, as well as commissioning, editing and revising stories.

The night team is solely focused on the Financial Times’ digital content. It has the key and exciting task of ensuring the FT  home page and app are bang up to date with the latest stories, both from Britain and around the world (there is close liaison with the New York news desk, as well as reporters). There is also preparation of stories due to appear at 5am the following day.

Members of the night team each work four nights a week, roughly between 4pm and midnight. There is regular Sunday working.

Ideally the candidate for this role will have experience of editing stories. Training can be provided on running the HP and revising stories.

How we work

Our office is located across the street from St. Paul’s Cathedral and is easily accessible from all corners of London. There are the main train terminals such as Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Blackfriars, City Thameslink or Waterloo all situated within walking distance or there are several tube stations within a few mins walk such as Mansion House (District or Circle line), St. Paul’s (Central line), Bank (Central or Waterloo & City line) or Barbican (Central, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan lines).
