News reporter – The Irish Sun

Your team: The Irish Sun is one of the biggest news brands in Ireland – and still growing! – with a talented, energetic team who publish the best coverage of news, sport, TV and showbiz, lifestyle and family values.

Purpose of role: To produce outstanding, engaging stories that captivate Irish Sun readers and dominate the national news agenda.

Working within an award-winning team you will bring in great exclusives and original story ideas, while consistently beating the competition on the biggest breaking news stories. You will also produce outstanding content for The Irish Sun Online with a focus on audience growth baked into every article.

Key accountabilities:

  • Cover breaking news stories from across Ireland.
  • Generate agenda-setting exclusives from your impressive contacts book.
  • Taking ownership of developing news stories and exploring all angles to engage our audience.
  • Recognising and acting upon any potential legal issues and acting in accordance with the Press Council of Ireland Code of Practice.
  • File word perfect and error free copy that entertains and informs our readers.
  • Ability to work as a team to keep The Irish Sun as the most-read news brand in Ireland.
  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking.
  • Must have and maintain a wide knowledge of news and current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms on a daily basis.
  • Encourage collaboration and support others, actively engaging with people in other teams and departments.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to file clean copy to very tight deadlines.
  • Flexible attitude to working hours across seven days.
  • Undying passion for all things news.
  • Must have own transport and be willing to travel at short notice.
  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.
  • Proactive and displays a willingness to take on any task.
  • Self-starter, organised and a good problem-solver, able to eliminate obstacles through creative  and adaptive approaches.
  • An understanding of The Irish Sun brand across print and digital.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Press Council of Ireland Code of Practice, media law and ethical considerations.
  • Positive can-do attitude and good team player.
