News reporter, mobile – Sky News (FTC 6 months)

As a reporter on the Mobile team, you will write and break news to large digital audiences – working on some of the biggest stories of the UK’s and world’s agenda. Your keen eye for a top line, flair for writing and high standards of journalism will be crucial to helping engage and grow our digital audiences.

Sky News stay at the front of the UK and world news – and you will be at the heart of this operation.

Whether it’s stories about the Royal Family, the war in Gaza, the political events of the day, high-profile court cases or live events, you will spot top lines and write about them with accuracy and speed.

What you’ll do:

  • Be at the forefront of breaking news to significant audiences on our website and app.
  • Pitch ideas for news stories, explainers and features, writing to style.
  • Research, write and produce stories and original journalism.
  • Uphold Sky News’ standards of accuracy.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • You may be asked to work with the live blogging team on occasion.

What you’ll bring:

  • A first-class judgement to identify the top lines of any story
  • A track record of finding, writing and producing stories to a high standard for recognised news organisations – whether national or local.
  • Experience in handling breaking news scenarios.
  • NCTJ training.
  • Knowledge in media law.
  • Ability to produce clean, engaging copy at pace and under pressure.
  • The flexibility to adjust your work patterns when events require.
