News Editor – Reach (New York, USA)
Salary: $90,000 – $100,000
We are looking for a News Editor to join our growing newsroom, with the unique opportunity to work across and contribute to all three of our major titles! Reporting to the Deputy Editor, and initially focussing on the Mirror US, you will be responsible for key traffic targets and overseeing the News team’s output and coverage, whilst working with both the Editor and senior team to deliver key objectives.
Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.
Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle – all targeted at US audiences.
We’re now entering a period of rapid growth, and are looking to add ambitious and dynamic talent to our teams.

A key focus for this role will be managing the News reporting team to deliver day-to-day news content, exclusives and planned coverage for major events. Additionally you will be responsible for writing engaging and ‘clickable’ headlines that will drive traffic to our websites, as well as editing copy in real-time with the confidence to publish at speed in breaking news scenarios. As the News Editor you will be held accountable for departmental traffic targets, overseeing the News team’s analytics and reporting as required.
Other duties include:
- Present the day’s news list in conference each morning and work with senior editors to shape the agenda
- Manage reporters’ day-to-day activities to ensure we remain ahead of our competitors and up to date on the key stories of the moment
- Ensure news output is legally and ethically compliant, in line with Reach’s internal protocols and US law
- Deputize for more senior editors as required, with homepage editing responsibilities
Shift Patterns
This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.
Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and rotas should be updated approximately a month in advance.
This position will consist of predominantly day shifts i.e. 8:00am – 4:00pm EST & 10:00am – 6:00pm EST. However, there may be an occasional need for late shifts as a result of current news affairs. Any shifts ending after 9:00pm EST will have the flexibility to be completed remotely.
A level of flexibility is required in this role, as shifts are open to last minute changes as a result of current news affairs, this may include weekends
You will be a digitally savvy Editor with an acute attention to detail and previous experience of working in a senior digital role within a news organization. You have the ability to craft copy with flair and write headlines that drive audience growth and engagement.
You have a vast knowledge of US current affairs and a detailed understanding of the US media landscape, including third-party referral partners. Importantly you are an excellent communicator and manager who is capable of inspiring and motivating a team.
