Multimedia Sport Reporter/Producer – Tindle Newspapers (Devon)

We have an exciting new role on offer in Devon within our multimedia publishing business, for an experienced Multimedia Sport Reporter/Producer with a passion for local sports news.

We’re at the heart of the action when it comes to grass roots sport in Devon – whether it’s football, rugby, cricket, running, surfing, bowls or boxing. Now we want a digitally savvy journalist to join our team. You’ll produce compelling website stories, photos and videos for our titles in Tavistock, the South Hams, Newton Abbot, and Crediton. And you’ll keep an eye on our newspaper sport sections too.

This role can be based at either one of our offices in Tavistock, Newton Abbot, or the South Hams. Whilst there is no need to travel between our offices, you will be required to travel to matches and sporting locations.

Experience and qualifications

  • Journalism degree or diploma or equivalent is essential
  • Driver’s license is essential
  • Can take photographs on a mobile phone
  • Can create bespoke web picture galleries both in the CMS and in Facebook
  • Can produce and edit basic video
  • Can transform photo galleries into a video
  • Avid user of social media, understanding how to use at least two different social platforms
  • Passion for a range of sports
  • Desire to go out and create features
  • Can produce a Facebook live
  • Proficient in using technology including our CMS, Flow
  • Can write to fixed word counts
  • Can enhance digital copy with embeds, video, galleries, fact boxes etc
  • Ability to upload a breaking news story at speed and share
  • Confident liaising with and supporting third-party providers to supply content into Flow
  • Can create and curate Live Blogs – with a clear idea of the types of subject that will engage readers
  • Demonstrates a passion for digital content – and has clear ideas of how to grow the digital reach of sport journalism in the relevant market

Desired

  • Confident using analytics tools such as Chartbeat or Google analytics
  • Can cut and edit more advanced videos using tools such as Canva
  • Understands SEO
  • Ability to use a newsletter publishing system such as Mailchimp
