Money Reporter – The Times and The Sunday Times (London)

The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for a reporter specialising in investment to join the personal finance desk.

The successful candidate will deliver news and analysis for the Money pages and for all sections of the papers across print and digital. You will have extensive experience in writing about all aspects of investing and be full of ideas as to how to make investing interesting and colourful to a mainstream audience.

You must have brilliant ideas, a passion for data and be able to write hard news, colourful features and in-depth analysis. You should have worked on a personal finance or business desk in a newsroom or at a trade publication.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines
  • Cover major personal finance stories across a broad range of areas, and specifically covering the investment beat
  • Pitch agenda-setting exclusive story ideas to the Money editor
  • Work with the Money team on big projects, campaigns and interviews
  • Build and maintain excellent contacts in personal finance and investments
  • Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote Times and Sunday Times content
  • Write across all sections and platforms seamlessly
  • Work collaboratively with other sections across the paper, particularly digital and graphics, to ensure the best presentation of stories on our digital platforms

Skills and experience

  • Experience writing for a national newspaper, news website or trade publication
  • Demonstrable expertise in personal finance and investment
  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking
  • Good understanding of audience data and SEO techniques to maximise search results
  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for
    The Times and The Sunday Times
  • Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines
  • Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively
  • Unflappable and reliable under pressure
  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
