PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £60,000 – £80,250 per annum depending on skills and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As our Lead Presenter you’ll have significant presentation experience and a proven track record of connecting with the audience. You’ll possess the right skills, but just as important is the right attitude: a willingness to change and adapt, endless curiosity, and the demonstrable ability to connect with people quickly. You will also be expected to provide accurate, insightful, and engaging content to deadlines for digital and audio platforms when required. Your delivery style will be inclusive and engaging while having the capacity to recognise and quickly adapt to changing tones and situations. You will be joining a committed and energetic team covering local news on all platforms, setting the news agenda, and providing content to thousands of viewers every week. We are looking for team players, who will be at the heart of making our team shine. You will be confident in establishing relationships across BBC Local, the wider BBC, and with external individuals and organisations. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • First and foremost, you will be the trusted face and voice of BBC Local in the South.
  • You will work closely with the production team to ensure the content you produce and deliver is of the highest quality with a focus on what our audience want and expect.
  • As well as nurturing our existing audience, you will be key in creating an offering to attract new audiences by reflecting their diverse lives.
  • You will research, script and present content in an engaging way while always following the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
  • You will have the responsibility of interviewing contributors to bring balanced and rounded stories and features to the audience – keeping impartiality at the core of everything we do.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • You’ll be calm and at ease in front of the camera with significant experience of live broadcasting and storytelling having hosted a TV News programme or presented or reported current affairs content.
  • You will need exceptional presentation and writing skills with the ability to engage viewers through sparkling live performance, compelling scripting and interviews whether in the studio or on location.
  • You will have a curious and probing approach, with experience of doing in-depth interviews that draw out the best stories from both the general public and experts.
  • You’ll have a good knowledge of, or the ability to become, an authority on local issues. You’ll need to be skilled at unpacking a diverse range of stories and trends in an accessible and engaging way.
  • We are a multi-platform operation so you will be enthusiastic about developing an online presence, ideally having proven experience of using digital media to extend the reach of your journalism.
