This journalist role is central to delivering a consistent, high-quality vertical video offering by sourcing, coordinating, and processing content from across the BBC for The Video Playlist on the BBC News front page. The role also strengthens forward planning, helping to create a more compelling and responsive on-the-day output, while ensuring a well-balanced mix of content that better serves audience needs.

BBC News is seeking a Vertical Video Journalist to drive compelling mobile-first storytelling through innovative short-form video. Based in Salford, this role is central to delivering the BBC’s vertical video strategy across its website, app, and social platforms, helping reach new audiences with engaging, digitally native formats.
YOUR KEY RESPONSABILITIES & IMPACT
- Contribute to the commissioning, production, and editing of vertical video content for BBC News’ playlist, site, and social platforms.
- Working with colleagues across platforms to ensure high-quality clips and news carousels reach audiences.
- Collaborate daily with teams across News, Sport, Sounds, iPlayer, and more.
- Ensure professional standards and content delivery within tight deadlines.
- Work flexible shifts, including weekends.
YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Proficiency in Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premiere.
- Proven journalism experience with strong editorial judgment and production skills.
- Strong writing ability and understanding of engaging different audience segments.
- Ability to manage workload, allocate tasks, and ensure quality output from teams.
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to work across multiple teams.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Experience using analytics and audience insights to inform editorial choices.
