Job Introduction
The Money, Work and Technology team reports on stories of regional and global importance, providing insightful analysis, original stories and explanatory journalism for audiences in the UK and around the world.
The Singapore bureau leads the BBC’s business coverage across all of Asia-Pacific. We report on business, economics and technology for all of the BBC’s platforms – digital, television and radio. Our reporting is accurate, impartial and clearly explains complex topics to a wide audience.
We are looking for a highly motivated and resourceful Journalist – Digital to write daily news stories for our digital platform.
Main Responsibilities
You will be expected to deliver copy that is engaging, accurate and accessible to a broad audience. You will thrive under breaking news pressure, able to turn around copy quickly and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will also be expected to write features, explainers and analysis with an emphasis on digital-first storytelling.
You will possess strong research, interviewing and writing skills, along with sound judgement and a willingness to learn. You will have a curious mind and be a self-starter who is organised, has the ability to prioritise your tasks and work under tight deadlines.
You will be expected to be familiar with content management systems and producing digital stories using images, graphics, video and headlines to enhance your copy and attract audiences.
As part of a small team, you will be working primarily with the Senior Journalist – Digital, and you will also be excited to collaborate with M&W team members when required, including supporting the Asia Business Correspondent. You will be adaptable to the needs of a live newsroom and expected to work flexibly across other roles, if required.
This is a newsroom-based role.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate must have:
• Strong writing skills and the ability to produce clean and clear news copy under tight deadlines
• Understanding of economics, business and technology, especially in the US and Asia Pacific.
• Digital media experience; using digital media tools and production skills to source and create content that resonate with audiences
• Demonstrated editorial judgement and creativity in generating story ideas and treatments that engage audiences
• A self-starter who enjoys working independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues in the newsroom
• Flexibility and willingness to work unpredictable hours if needed
• Adaptable in a changing news environment and enthusiasm to take on other responsibilities when required
• High level of interpersonal and communication skills, especially working in a multi-cultural environment.
• Experience working in video and audio field production may be considered
