BBC News Uzbek is a key source of impartial and independent news in the region, steadfastly covering the pressing issues of Uzbekistan, Central Asia, Afghanistan, and the world for the past 30 years. Its original journalism, alongside delivering the finest of the BBC to multimillion Uzbek audiences in Uzbekistan and worldwide, aligns with the BBC’s fundamental values such as the Pursue truth with no agenda. BBC News Uzbek’s journalism has garnered prestigious media awards internationally and is respected by its growing loyal audience in Uzbekistan and beyond.

We serve large audiences in Uzbekistan, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Russia, as well as Uzbek-speaking communities worldwide. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

 

  • Produce high quality, accurate and impartial journalism by researching, writing, editing and delivering content across video, audio and digital platforms.
  • Create engaging online material, including long reads, in depth analyses and features, with a strong focus on contemporary media trends and content tailored to younger and female audiences.
  • Present content live or recorded on radio, TV and digital streams, and contribute to the production and delivery of programmes as required.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues and other BBC departments to coordinate coverage, share material efficiently and ensure output is appropriately adapted for different audience groups.
  • Deliver compelling multimedia packages to tight deadlines while maintaining BBC editorial, professional, and health & safety standards.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

 

  • Strong command of the Uzbek language in both Latin and Cyrillic scripts and English, both written and spoken.
  • A deep understanding of Uzbekistan, Central Asia, Russia, and the wider post-Soviet region.
  • Proven journalistic experience with solid production skills, strong digital literacy, awareness of AI tools, and an excellent grasp of evolving media trends and digital consumption habits.
  • Clear understanding of the BBC’s editorial values, news agenda and audience needs across news and current affairs, with the ability to source, verify and gather material using appropriate technology.
  • Effective team player with the ability to build positive working relationships, embrace diversity, and communicate creatively through accurate, engaging writing tailored to different audiences and platforms.
  • Highly adaptable and resilient under pressure, able to meet deadlines, manage shifting priorities and adhere to all relevant Health & Safety requirements in a broadcasting environment.

 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

 

  • Understanding of Russian language
