LOCATION: Seoul, South Korea

Interviews will be held during the last week of September and first week of October.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join BBC News Korean to originate and produce, as part of a team, a wide variety of high quality news and current affairs content for BBC News Korean multimedia output. BBC World Service is an international news provider, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on digital, TV and radio. It reaches a weekly audience of around 364 million around the world, helping them make sense of the world we live in. BBC News Korean brings quality, impartial, original journalism to Korean-speaking audiences on radio and online.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Produce engaging original content for BBC News Korean’s radio and digital output.
  • Demonstrate the skills to produce and present content in Korean language. This might be live or recorded.
  • Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, gather, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
  • Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
  • Use audience research and metric analytics to contribute story ideas that will have impact with BBC News Korean’s audiences.
  • Adapt, translate and curate radio, digital and video content for Korean-speaking audiences.
  • Ensure that the BBC Editorial guidelines and all relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met, referring up in case of difficulty or doubt.

 YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Professional experience in producing contents in Korean language. A full command and up to date knowledge of written and spoken Korean as first (or equivalent) language as well as complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Significant recent experience as a journalist, particularly covering North and South Korea, East Asia and global news and current affairs.
  • Excellent knowledge of radio formats, social media platforms and digital video, including the latest developments in the target market.
  • Effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.
  • The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • A good presence on camera and experience of social media lives would be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of data analytics and experience of using it to shape the content and meet the needs of different audience groups.
