PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We are looking for a journalist who is passionate about social media and inspired by the fast moving world of digital platforms and online audiences. This role suits a self starter who is quick to learn, resilient, well organised, and motivated to support diverse teams in their daily work while helping raise the bar for our social media output.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative and flexible team player, using social media metrics and social listening insights to drive meaningful improvements in reach, engagement, and performance. They will play a key role in ensuring BBC News Brasil journalism reaches the widest possible audience and in strengthening our brand as a producer of trusted, high quality journalism. Creativity and a genuine drive for digital storytelling are central to the role, with opportunities to tell stories across social platforms, including video, make simple edits, and spot emerging trends.

 

 

 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT :

•    Help to manage BBC Brasil social media accounts with the help of the social media editor
•    Contribute to social media listening and audience analysis
•    Contribute programme ideas and carry out research, under supervision, in support of journalists
•    Find contributors for items on programmes; persuade contributors to go on air
•    Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards

 

 

 

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Fluency in Brazilian Portuguese, both spoken and written
•    Ability to manage Social Media platforms (such as Instagram  , TikTok, Whatsapp, X and Facebook), with supervision from the Social Media editor or other editors, programming posts, editing video, moderating comments
•    Ability to produce, write and present “social-first” content to be mainly published on our Social Media channels
•    Ability to contribute on a regular basis to our news-gathering effort with ideas identified in Social Media trends, comments and content in general. Contribution to our Social Media strategy and audience data analysis
•    Ability to produce original stories in text, scripts and videos for publication not just in Social Media channels but also on our website
•    Ability to assist, if requested, editors subbing and coordinating the work of others in the Social Media team
•    Skills in audience analysis
•    Knowledge of the BBC guidelines and editorial values
