PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role sits within the News on iPlayer team in Glasgow where we create impactful mid and longform content. We are looking for a Journalism Co-ordinator who is a great team player and is at home making things happen in a creative and versatile space. You’ll play a key role at the heart of our operation co-ordinating filming, logistics, health and safety needs and be a key point of call for colleagues to ensure consistently excellent delivery of programming, at pace. Please note this is primarily a coordinator role rather than an editorial focussed one.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

The News on iPlayer team has a huge impact in bringing non-news audiences to BBC streaming platforms. Formats like The Big Cases, Scams & Scandals, Access All Areas and On the Front Line are just some of the content you will find yourself working on. Add in quick turnaround programmes and collaborations with our Streaming Live colleagues on big breaking news stories – you’ll always be busy.

You’ll be joining a team who cares about where our audiences are at as we dive into the data consistently to inform the output we commission and create. Finally, we are a team that collaborates across BBC Network news and Nation and Region news teams.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • You’ll be at home organising, co-ordinating and managing multiple ongoing projects, from co-ordinating filming, to triaging scheduling and payments; or researching pictures, archiving and delivering our programmes. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, and you’ll help to just make things happen!
  • You’ll play a key role during the production process, including producing call-sheets and risk assessments, booking crews and problem-solving if any issues arise.
  • Experimentation, piloting, and continual improvement are key to success. You should be able to work across a number of simultaneous projects and be prepared for continuous change.
  • The Journalism Co-ordinator will be expected to work some evenings and weekends to help us deliver always on News coverage on iPlayer.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrable experience of co-ordinating multiple simultaneous projects, working to a variety of stakeholders.
  • An understanding of digital production processes, with specific regard to editing and TV production workflows.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt, with a desire to work in a constantly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of production requirements, including contributor, crew and location booking and scheduling.
  • An appreciation of the need for comprehensive record keeping and metadata in footage logging, and day-to-day production.
