Head of News Video – The Sun (London)
An iconic, dynamic storyteller with a rich heritage and a global audience in the millions, The Sun is now focusing on an exciting, video-focussed strategy to engage new audiences, putting video at the heart of The Sun’s journalism.
This is your chance to lead that change redefining how content is created and consumed, contributing to fast paced, agenda setting video output that drives traffic and revenue, as we redefine how a brand at the heart of the nation’s conversation finds innovative new ways to tell the stories that matter in the fast-paced digital world.
Your Role: As Head of News Video, you will be responsible for spearheading our multi-platform news video proposition. This role is at the heart of our strategic shift, where video creation, new format innovation, and audience engagement are key drivers. You will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge news video, ensuring we are first to the breaking stories of the day – always told with the famous Sun tone of voice. You will bring expert analysis to help shape the biggest stories as they happen, leading our charge on YouTube while growing social audiences and delivering the key digital video news content which remains vital to the brand. You will help to lead newsroom transformation, commissioning video from the newsroom, rather than just being reactive to the newsrooms video needs.
Day to day you will:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive digital video news strategy that aligns with the company’s vision for audience growth, brand relevance, and revenue diversification.
Innovation in Video News Formats: Create and experiment with new video formats that engage diverse audiences across multiple platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.) and ensure we remain the leading source of news stories
Quick and dynamic: Work with the Senior News Video Commissioning Editor and video news commissioning editors to ensure we are always at the forefront of breaking news storytelling.
Exclusives framework: Ensure we approach exclusives with a video-first approach so they are broken across platforms seamlessly
Data-Driven Approach: Use data analytics and audience insights to shape video content, optimise performance, and increase audience engagement and loyalty.
Cross-Platform Storytelling: Oversee the production of engaging, multimedia storytelling that integrates seamlessly across platforms, creating a unified brand narrative.
Monetization & Partnerships: Identify and cultivate revenue opportunities through video partnerships, sponsorships, and branded content collaborations.
Team Leadership: Build and mentor a cross-functional team of producers, editors, and content creators to deliver innovative, high-quality video projects.
Senior Stakeholder Management: Liaise with the most senior stakeholders in the newsroom and the wide business to inform strategy and champion video transformation.
What we are looking for from you:
Visionary Leader: You’re not just following trends, you’re setting them. You have a track record of leading digital innovation, particularly in video content creation and distribution.
Audience & Data Obsessed: You have a proven track record of thriving on understanding audiences, using data-driven insights to tailor content that captures attention and drives engagement.
Production Expertise: Deep experience in producing multimedia content across a range of platforms. You know how to create compelling stories that resonate in a digital world.
Marketing Integration: You have a strong understanding of brand marketing and can seamlessly align video strategies with overall brand objectives.
Business Savvy: You’re comfortable managing budgets, developing revenue strategies, and fostering partnerships to grow the business.
