Head of Features – Mirror & Magazines (London)

We are looking for an exceptional Head of Features to join our dynamic Mirror & Magazines team. This is a pivotal digital/print hybrid role and a fantastic opportunity to lead and evolve a vibrant multimedia department.  You will spearhead the features, lifestyle, audience and opinion content for The Mirror and all Reach magazine titles including OK!, New, S magazine, Notebook and Love Sunday. You will ensure we have high-quality journalism that entertains our readers and targets our main digital traffic sources including Direct, Social, SEO and referrers.

You will oversee brilliant real life interviews, investigations, opinion pieces, parenting features, health stories and explainers, celebrity, TV, royal, home, travel, food, gardening, and much more.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will oversee features, audience, lifestyle, opinion and comment content for the Mirror and Magazines, managing a team of staff and freelance editors, writers and deputies to curate feature content that resonates with our audiences across a seven day multimedia operation. You will generate, plan, commission, write and desk edit content on a daily basis, ensuring it meets our high standard and ensuring the department hits its daily and monthly PV and engagement targets, affiliate revenue targets and print targets.

You will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team including the Executive Editor (Advanced Content) and the Executive Editor (Audience and Content) as well as the Picture Desk, Social Media team and our newly structured Content Hub and Reach Studio to ensure the treatment of all content is executed to its best potential. You will commission a variety of long-form and short-form features, audio and video content across digital platforms. You will guide and support your team to come up with innovative ideas and creative concepts for interviews and features, fostering a dynamic working environment. This role will involve working on a shift/rota basis including weekends and evenings so a flexible approach is required.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are a highly skilled, qualified journalist and senior Editor with a proven track record of writing and editing top quality features content in a fast paced national newsroom or magazine environment. You have experience working across both print and digital content, and the nuanced editing skills that both require. You have an excellent understanding of our audiences and can motivate your team to meet deadlines with ease.

You have a strong understanding and competency using data analytics and reporting tools. You are ready to approve print layouts, imagery & copy and willing to step up to edit Mirror.co.uk when needed. You are a proven and supportive people manager who has the skills to foster a high performance culture through clear communication and goal setting. You are passionate about features, staying up to date with the latest news and trends, with the help of your bursting contacts book of PRs, agents and publishers.
