Work hours : 10am-6pm, Mon – Friday

Summary
This is an ideal role for a graduate who wants to build a career in digital publishing, media technology or audience development.
FlatPlan is the leading Apple News technology and strategy provider, working with 230+ consumer publishers including The Atlantic, The Athletic, Good Housekeeping, Time and Formula 1. We’re a preferred provider to Apple, helping the world’s biggest publishers reach hundreds of millions of readers through Apple News and beyond. We’re profitable, growing, and scaling sanely: a sharp team doing meaningful work at pace.
Salary: £28,000
Position overview:
You’ll take articles from many of our large publishers and turn them into carefully curated, well-designed Apple News experiences inside FlatPlan+, our Apple News+ CMS — working to a daily rhythm across several major publishers. Along the way you’ll learn what actually makes content perform: which pieces are best for resurfacing, and how to present them so they land with readers. AI tools, including Claude Code, will be part of the job – used to take care of the repetitive production work so your attention goes into the editorial and design calls that matter. We’ll teach you Claude Code and the principles; what we’re looking for is your care for news media, your curiosity about audiences, and your willingness to learn fast.
What you’ll own:
- Transforming publisher articles into beautifully presented Apple News experiences to a daily schedule
- Spotting which pieces will perform and why
- Using our tools and AI thoughtfully, so the craft and judgment stay yours while the tools handle the busywork
- Keeping sign-off moving with a named contact at each publisher
- Tracking how your work performs so we all learn from it.
Where it can lead:
This is the start of a path. As you grow you’ll take on more responsibility for how content performs and how we produce it, with room to specialise in audience or production as the team scales.
Why you should apply:
FlatPlan is a small, passionate team with backgrounds at Apple, New York Times Company and Hearst Media. We started FlatPlan because we believe great journalism deserves to reach wide audiences, and that publishers need better tools to make that sustainable. Apple News+ is one of the few places left where quality publishers can build real, monetisable reach — and the technology and production innovation behind that is part of what keeps it working for them. That’s our mission: using smart tools and craft together to help publishers stay read, and stay in business.
We’re fully remote but intentional about connection: social 1:1s, Friday socials, a virtual office and quarterly UK meet-ups. We share knowledge openly and regularly, celebrate wins in a weekly session and work collaboratively on obstacles. There are no layers of bureaucracy, we’re a tight team that looks out for each other.
We want this team to reflect the breadth of the publishers and audiences we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. All qualified candidates will be considered regardless of race, gender, identity, orientation, disability or background.
What you’ll gain:
You’ll build skills that are increasingly in demand across publishing, media and technology, including:
- AI-assisted publishing workflows using tools like Claude Code
- Audience development and the principles behind content performance
- Editorial production for Apple News+
- Content design and digital storytelling
- Data-informed decision making using audience insights
- Client communication and stakeholder management
- Working across multiple premium publishing brands to tight deadlines
- Using editorial judgement to decide what content deserves greater visibility
- Confidence working in a fast-moving, remote-first technology company.
You’ll also receive close mentoring from experienced audience specialists and product experts who’ve worked with some of the world’s leading publishers and technology companies, with regular feedback to help you develop quickly.
By the end of your first year, you’ll have practical experience that’s relevant to careers in audience development, editorial, digital publishing, content strategy, product, customer success and media technology.
Requirements
Must-haves:
- A real interest in audiences and what makes people read, share and come back
- A good visual eye: you can look at a plain article and see how to make it better
- Enthusiasm for technology and AI, and the confidence to pick up new tools fast – and use them well, not just quickly
- Care for quality and attention to detail
- A clear communicator who’s comfortable talking to people outside the company
- A degree in journalism, media, communications or a related field, or equivalent enthusiasm and evidence you’d take to this work.
Nice-to-haves:
- Any experience with content, social or audiences, whether that’s a student paper, a blog, internships or personal projects
- Some familiarity with design or AI tools
- An interest in Apple News.
You don’t need years of experience, a design qualification or prior knowledge of Apple News. We’ll teach you all of that.
