PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: $115,000-135,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

This is a local hire position and eligible candidates must be able to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or work authorisation).

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The BBC seeks a strategic, growth-driven video specialist to lead our dynamic North America digital video team. You’ll manage talented journalists, collaborate with correspondents, and drive innovation across formats and storytelling. This role demands editorial leadership around breaking news and impactful moments, delivering compelling content for US, Canadian, and global audiences. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Shape and execute a digital video strategy to grow North American audiences, aligned with BBC editorial standards.
  • Lead and inspire a team of video journalists, using data insights to guide daily output and audience engagement.
  • Commission, edit and publish compelling short-form video content, from breaking news to features and analysis.
  • Craft clear, accurate headlines and summaries that enhance discoverability and impact.
  • Collaborate across BBC teams globally, sharing best practices and advancing video storytelling innovation.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Excellent editorial judgment and a track record of spotting opportunites to tell stories in an engaging way, even under pressure
  • Proven experience developing and implementing a global video strategy while planning multiple projects and diving deep into data to drive audience growth and engagement
  • An aptitude for managing and motivating individuals to produce their best work by setting direction and goals, and keeping them on track
  • Exceptional editing skills (FCPX, Adobe Premier or similar) and ability to quickly learn new ones, and experience of digital content management systems
  • A commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understanding of how individual differences can benefit the BBC

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus
