Digital Reporter
The Leader is looking for a top-class reporter who is passionate about digital storytelling, hard-working, full of ideas and has the drive to come up with innovative ways of presenting stories across various platforms.
We need an ambitious, digitally skilled, versatile journalist to cover breaking news and write stories and features from this incredibly lively patch. The right candidates will also be able to report for other titles in the region, including the Chester Standard and the Rhyl Journal. A major part of the job will be immersing yourself in social media, developing relationships and understanding what matters to the local community.
The job is a hybrid role; there will be a combination of home working, reporting from out on patch and time spent in our regional newsroom in Mold. Ideally, you will be a fully qualified reporter with gold-standard NCTJ with 100wpm.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver fast, accurate and engaging coverage of breaking news, features and human interest stories from a vibrant and diverse patch.
- Create compelling digital content tailored to audience interests across multiple platforms, including live blogs, listicles, and long-form features.
- Collaborate with other regional titles, including the Chester Standard and Rhyl Journal, to enhance regional coverage.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local contacts, community groups and stakeholders to uncover stories that matter.
- Immerse yourself in social media to source leads, engage with readers and amplify your journalism.
- Champion the best of our local communities while holding power to account through coverage of crime, politics and public interest issues.
- Work flexibly across home, field and newsroom environments, contributing to a dynamic and responsive reporting rota.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- NCTJ-qualified with gold-standard accreditation and 100wpm shorthand (preferred).
- Proven ability to generate original story ideas and present them in digital formats.
- An understanding of digital audiences.
- Strong grasp of SEO principles and how they apply to digital journalism.
- Confident using digital analytics tools.
- Excellent time management and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently.
- Can work to deadlines.
- Solid knowledge of media law and its application in day-to-day reporting.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car are essential.
