Digital Journalist

Do you have a passion for great content, quality journalism and the ability to spot a trending story?

We are looking for a talented, energetic and resourceful trainee reporter to join our reporting team in West Yorkshire.

National World – which includes highly respected local weekly newsbrands such as the Halifax Courier, Wakefield Express, Pontefract & Castleford Express and Dewsbury Reporter  – needs a digital journalist with their finger on the pulse of what’s going on and what people in West Yorkshire want to hear about.

You will be covering everything from breaking news, human interest stories and pieces on why West Yorkshire is a place to be proud of to checking out the hottest properties around and delving into our rich past with retro ideas.

Our readership is already growing quickly so we are investing in our great team to make sure we are writing more stories that they want to read.

You will have the hunger to learn, develop and embrace change as our business quickly develops. You will have a solid grasp of SEO and a natural understanding of what makes great digital content.

Most of all, you will be keen to be part of a team with big ambitions.

Who we are looking for:

  • A passionate journalist who understands Calderdale, North Kirklees and Wakefield, and the region’s great heritage and its exciting future
  • Successful candidates will have a keen eye for a story and an understanding of what drives audiences, along with a good understanding of SEO
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow analytics, identify content trends and come up with original content ideas
  • Be comfortable in a fast-paced media environment but have the organisational skills to plan ahead
  • A keen news sense and an understanding of what drives audiences, along with a natural understanding of social media
  • Be capable of producing fast and accurate copy
  • Exhibit familiarity with analytics tools that drive both content discovery and creation
