Deputy Showbiz Editor – Express – Reach (London)

We are looking for a Deputy Showbiz Editor to join us at The Express.

We are keen to speak with candidates that are ready to help lead our teams of writers in delivering content which informs, inspires, indulges and informs our readers about their lives.

Whether it is ball gowns, break-ups or baby bumps, you’re always in the know. You’re clued up on celeb news from around the globe, with a particular interest in the UK and the US. If it’s on TV, you’re watching it and if it’s breaking news, you broke it.

As our Deputy Showbiz Editor you will be responsible for managing content, developing teams and working closely with our Showbiz Editor.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

We are happy to consider applications on a flexible working basis, and will always aim to accommodate requests where possible.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub with a minimum of 2 days in office per week. Therefore you must be based in and around London to be considered.

 

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will take charge of the coverage of major breaking news stories across the showbiz world, sourcing, writing and developing stories that will appear to the Express’s audience. You will sub edit and manage showbiz copy to ensure it is accurate and attention grabbing.

You will support and guide the showbiz team to ensure content meets the high standards our readers have come to expect. You will have the opportunity to plan for you and your team to attend exciting events on behalf of the Express. You will stay up to date with all things showbiz to make sure we stay ahead of our rivals when it comes to scooping exclusive stories.  This position will involve weekend/evening working so a flexible approach is required.

 

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

  • NCTJ qualification or equivalent and in depth knowledge of media law is essential
  • Previous experience of both writing and editing lifestyle stories at a national or large regional digital title is essential
  • Strong digital publishing skills and proven experience securing showbiz exclusives is essential
  • You have a fantastic eye for detail and proven experience reporting on and editing all things showbiz – specifically UK and US and a bursting contacts book to match
  • You can create and edit content at pace whilst meeting deadlines with ease
  • You enjoy the test of working to tight deadlines and have experience utilising SEO
  • Excellent social media skills and knowledge of all major platforms including Facebook, Instagram and X for posting of content
  • People management skills are desirable as the role will involve deputising and managing reporters in the Showbiz Editors absence
