Deputy Editor, Yorkshire Life

We are part of Newsquest Media Group, one of the UK’s largest regional media companies. With over 120 news brands and a growing portfolio of lifestyle publications. We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Deputy Editor to support the Editor in producing compelling content for Yorkshire Life across print and digital platforms. This is a dynamic role that involves writing, commissioning, editing, and contributing to the overall production of the magazine. You’ll also play a key role in maintaining our social media presence and deputising for the Editor when required.
Whilst you will work from home, we would ideally like someone to be located in the Yorkshire area due to the localised nature of the role. You will need to travel to events around the region so a driving licence and a vechile is essential for the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Editor in sourcing, writing, and commissioning engaging lifestyle content.
  • Edit and proofread features to ensure accuracy, legal compliance, and editorial quality.
  • Commission and coordinate photography and social page coverage.
  • Write regular hero features and conduct interviews with local personalities.
  • Maintain and update Yorkshire Life’s social media channels with fresh, relevant content.
  • Attend events, occasionally during evenings or weekends, to represent the magazine.
  • Manage content flow and deadlines in the Editor’s absence.
  • Collaborate with the sales team and support promotional events as needed.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • NCTJ qualification or equivalent journalism training.
  • Proven experience in feature writing and magazine production.
  • Strong editorial judgement and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in managing social media platforms.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Yorkshire’s geography, culture, and lifestyle.
  • Experience managing contributors or small editorial teams is a plus.
