Deputy Art Editor – The Stylist Group (London)

Overall Objective

The Stylist art team are tasked with producing gold standard editorial and digital work for Stylist. The Deputy Art Editor will deputise to the Art Director when needed, and help lead by example by switching from creative direction to production across both print and digital platforms. We’re searching for a dynamic, enthusiastic and digital-savvy candidate who loves to solve creative problems and can help us take our content to the next level.

Key responsibilities

  • To design editorial layouts and creative assets, including marketing and digital content. Attending weekly production meetings and presenting work and mock–ups to the department heads and editor.
  • To be a confident voice in brainstorms with the Art Director when presenting your most engaging, effective and efficient asset treatment for the brief.
  • To upload and transform print based & website content into a digital magazine.
  • To understand the nuances of design across all platforms. Ensuring the development of design team through shared learning and best practice
  • To originate layout & visual concepts, commission artists, supporting the art director on still life shoots.
  • To liaise with repro partners to ensure that all print work look as good as possible.
  • To brief and supervise illustrators when required, building a diverse pool of contributors with strong working relationships to support the ebb and flow of the magazine.
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with the editorial team working closely with Art Director.
  • To deputise for the Art Director when required, which will involve managing workflows for the design team and designing weekly covers.

Person

  • Experience in designing creative, fun and exciting editorial layouts with a keen eye for detail.
  • Highly organised and enjoys working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Proactive, solution-based attitude. Personable with strong communication skills and ability to forge strong relationships.
  • Represents the company in a professional and appropriate manner when attending shoots and liaising with external companies.
  • Ability to give and receive open and honest feedback – essential in creating a strong team culture and helping elevate standard of the overall team.
  • A professional team player with a positive and can-do attitude and works well under pressure.
  • Necessary software skills – Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and experience working in After Effects and Canvas Flow preferable

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week from our London, Fleet Street Office.
