Commercial content writer – Newsquest (North West & Wales)

We are looking for an experienced writer to work across our extensive portfolio of newspaper titles and websites in the North Wales and Northwest region. This role will work closely with our commercial teams to produce content around larger local subject matters and create content for advertisers and specific industry sectors.

This role requires a natural leader who can combine a deep understanding of delivering high-quality, multi-media content with a revenue-generating mindset to deliver bespoke content across a range of specialist topics in collaboration with clients and partners.

It is an exciting time to join Newsquest, which, across its portfolio, reaches millions of people every month. We are looking to take our business coverage and engagement with the business community across the region to the next level and this role is key to that mission.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop engaging and persuasive content linked to specific sectors, industries, and subject matters.
  • Work in collaboration with commercial teams to support and deliver commercial content initiatives, ranging from bespoke features and supplements to annual content campaigns on specialist topics.
  • Spot and refer opportunities for generating revenue from editorial leads and contacts.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Review and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency, as well as adherence to brand voice and style guidelines.
  • Content Calendar Management: Assist in developing and maintaining a content calendar to ensure timely delivery of content across multiple channels and campaigns.
  • Meet with clients to establish, secure, or develop relationships.
  • The successful candidate should be able to work well across editorial and commercial functions devising and delivering annual content plans.

The candidate:

You will be a journalist or have equivalent experience in PR & Communications along with the market knowledge and ability to spot opportunities for commercial activity while delivering agenda-setting content across the portfolio. You will be a natural leader and as comfortable writing a 500-word business feature or interviewing CEOs, as you are hosting a round table discussion with industry leaders.
