You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract or a worker contract and you have worked continuously for six months.

We have an opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic social journalist to join our diverse team, bringing alive stories across our social media accounts.

Main Responsibilities

As a Journalist, some of the main responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Day-to-day running of our social media accounts (Facebook, X and Instagram), building relationships with online communities.
  • Working with reporters, you’ll create, curate and promote stories for each social platform and drive engagement and growth of referrals from social accounts to BBC products and services, including BBC Sounds.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the Social Media Journalist in Guernsey and wider team in the South West of the UK.

This is a great opportunity for someone who loves growing audiences, creating digital content and believes in the potential to reach new audiences on social media platforms.

 

  • The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling and a comprehensive understanding of what resonates with our audience on social media.
  • You must have a nose for which stories have the potential to translate to digital audiences.
  • You will understand the BBC Local Social Strategy and have an aptitude for turning great online, video and audio into engaging social media content.
  • You will be familiar with social listening tools such as Newswhip and how to interpret data. The ability to use platform publishing tools such as Social Flow would be an advantage.
  • Ideally, you’ll already have film-making skills and know how to shoot and edit your own material with proficiency in editing tools like Final Cut Pro.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, is also desirable, although training can be provided.
  • You don’t need to have a background in journalism or news – you just need to know a great story when you hear it.
