Associate Editor Vacancy – The Scottish Sun is recruiting an Associate Editor to join our talented team.

Your Team: You will join the top leadership and backbench team, working alongside some of the most talented journalists in the industry.

The role: This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in the day to day running and development of the award-winning print and digital content of Scotland’s No1 newsbrand.

As a key member of the senior team the Associate Editor will  support the Editor-in-Chief, help lead and manage multiple teams and will also play an integral role in driving positive change across all formats. The ideal candidate will be skilled and experienced in content across all formats as well as production journalism. They will have an abundance of drive, energy and ambition and have a track record in proactively taking on responsibility and delivering results.They must be comfortable working across all platforms with a story first team while also being able to manage a significant additional workload. Strong organisational, people and communication skills are a must in order to assist in creating a diverse and inclusive product and talent pool.


Day to Day you will:

  • Drive production across the week.
  • Write fantastic headlines and design sparkling pages for Scotland’s best-selling newspaper.
  • Work across news and features including breaking news, court stories, hard-hitting politics, serious investigations, gritty real life, showbiz tales and editing daily columnists.
  • Turn ordinary news or features ideas into a great spread or great video package.
  • Contribute ideas for all platforms.
  • Monitor digital for content opportunities and quality control.
  • Work to our extremely high standards.
  • Be fully aware of potential legal issues and must always act in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct.


What we’re looking for from you:

  • An impeccable background in journalism.
  • Extensive knowledge of Scottish politics.
  • Proven track record in managing print and digital teams.
  • Experience or knowledge of video and audio content
  • Adapt to changing priorities across both print and digital
  • Be flexible working across 7 days*
  • Able to motivate and encourage team members
  • Have great people management skills and a desire to bring out the best in people
  • Be able to work effectively and calmly under pressure
  • Be organised and have the ability to look beyond the day-to-day pressures with forward planning and strategic thinking
