WHY JOIN THE TEAM

The Global Story was relaunched in September 2025 with a bold and ambitious vision to grow the BBC’s reach and reputation in the United States. The show tells one story in-depth each weekday, in a narrative format, focusing on where the world and America meet. This is a massive opportunity to shape the future of the podcast as it enters the next phase of its development and growth.
We recently launched on YouTube every weekday in vision, and a keen understanding of how to cut through in the digital media landscape is highly desirable.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

•    Executive producing/editing episodes, delivering high professional standards of journalism, and creative, immersive narrative storytelling
•    Doing final sign off/compliance of episodes, ensuring they meet the BBC’s editorial standards on fairness, impartiality and accuracy.
•    Commissioning episodes, ensuring a strong pipeline of future episodes, and making quick decisions in response to the news agenda.
•    Line management of individuals on the team, leading others to produce their best work, creating a positive working culture, and giving development opportunities across the team to ensure everyone can thrive.
•    Continue the development of the podcast across YouTube, social media and digital platforms, exploring the potential for expanding.
•    Set team and individual objectives, as well as clear expectations about required performance levels, reward success and address performance issues fairly.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

•    A high standard of editorial judgment and creative storytelling abilities based on extensive experience in broadcast journalism.
•    Experience of making challenging editorial decisions in a fast-paced environment.
•    Experience of in-depth, narrative audio storytelling at a senior level.
•    Experience of compliance and signing off material to a high journalistic standard.
•    Strong leadership skills, with an ability to inspire others and develop them to deliver their best work.
•    Able to prioritise and plan, taking into account deadlines, staffing, programme budgets and resource requirements.
•    The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
