This senior editorial role will involve working in Millbank on Sky News’ weeknight political show. A strong understanding of political programming and output is beneficial. Ideas for political stories, engaging debate and entertaining guests are key. As an Assistant Editor for other parts of Sky News at times, you will be at the sharp end of its journalism, commissioning and delivering stories and managing dynamic on-the-day news coverage across Sky’s web and app. There will be considerable team management responsibilities across the digital team.

 

This is a shift-based role including earlies, lates and some weekends.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Help drive the political agenda with creative story ideas, treatments and guest suggestions
  • Make key editorial decisions and drive coverage on web and app
  • Participate in key editorial meetings setting the day’s agenda
  • Lead the web and app editorial teams, manage and develop journalists
  • Commission stories and analysis to our digital journalist and the wider newsrooms, including TV correspondents
  • Liaise with the wider newsroom to set the agenda and move stories forward
  • Participate in and contribute to the planning of big events
  • Work with our audience development team to implement data-led strategies

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Sharp editorial judgement
  • Experience handling big breaking news scenarios and keeping cool under pressure
  • Legal knowledge and best-practice experience to critique and sign-off sensitive journalism
  • The agility to multi-task and ability to identify priorities
  • Significant newsroom and management experience
