Assistant Digital Editor – We are looking for an Assistant Digital Editor to join the team at Scotland’s no 1 news brand and multi-award winning website to oversee the day to day running of the website, source exclusive stories, deliver the latest breaking news to our audience and drive traffic to the site.

Your Role: You will be responsible for supporting the Digital Editor in the daily management of thescottishsun.co.uk and overseeing the running of the homepage to ensure it is packed with the best content each day.

Day to day you will:

  • Support the Digital Editor with the day to day function of the online news team
  • Oversee thescottishsun.co.uk homepage to ensure the highest standard of presentation in headlines and pictures to maximise traffic
  • Constantly review and improve the quality of stories, checking for updates, fresh lines and images, particularly on large live and breaking stories
  • Have an instinct for how to ‘sell’ a digital story to get maximum impact on The Scottish Sun’s platforms and social media
  • Monitor analytics and news feeds to ensure the best content is being surfaced
  • Effectively recirculate readers within The Scottish Sun and keep them absorbed with our content
  • Work closely with the Digital Editor, Digital News Editor and Social Media team to ensure high standards are maintained and given maximum exposure on all social platforms
  • Be responsible for our push notification strategy

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Experience in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Sharp news sense and sound judgement
  • A creative mind and an eye for detail
  • Ability to produce arresting headlines and eye-catching kickers
  • Calm under pressure and ability to communicate effectively in a breaking news scenario
  • Subbing experience and a flair for presenting stories preferred
  • Understanding of digital media, trends and audience behaviours
  • Experience of video and multi-platform
  • A knowledge of legal issues, the Editors’ Code of Practice and IPSO standards
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage day-to-day tasks and forward planning
  • Experience effectively managing or leading a team through motivation, understanding and good communication
  • Be flexible working across 7 days
