Arable Reporter – Mark Allen (Sutton)

Farmers Weekly is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic individual who can get to grips with generating content for the technically driven arable farmer.

Mark Allen is home to the Farmers Weekly portfolio. We are a growing media organisation, with 550 magnificent individuals to date and we are recruiting an arable reporter to join our award-winning team.

Farmers Weekly HQ is based in Sutton, Surrey, with hybrid office/home working. Remote working applications will also be considered. The role also requires extensive travel throughout the UK and occasionally overseas. Starting salary £30,000.

About the role…

Do you know your T0 from your take-all? Farmers Weekly is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic individual who can get to grips with generating content for the technically driven arable farmer.

We need someone who can write about the challenges and triumphs of arable farming with insight and depth.

So while a journalism qualification is desirable, it’s just as important to have practical farming knowledge – you might be a farmworker or manager looking to stay in the industry, but try something new.

It is an exciting time, with farmers adopting new practices like regenerative farming and new technology transforming the way we grow crops

Your job is to develop interesting story ideas to tight deadlines to ensure Farmers Weekly remains the first choice for anyone who wants to keep abreast of these developments and what they mean for UK farmers.

A typical week as an arable reporter might involve interviewing a farmer, scientist or agronomist, shooting a video on the farm and tweeting live from a conference.

You will be required to represent Farmers Weekly at events both at home and abroad, so must be comfortable talking to farmers, agronomists, researchers and the wider industry.

Key responsibilities:

  • Generating original, high-quality content for Farmers Weekly, in print and online
  • Taking photographs, producing videos and using social media
  • Developing industry contacts

Key requirements:

  • Experience in writing accurate, informative copy to deadline and brief
  • Interest/background in crop production and/or agriculture
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and manage contacts
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Interest in online journalism and social media
  • Full driving licence

We positively celebrate diversity  and inclusion in the Mark Allen Group. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our company stronger.

If you feel you don’t meet every single requirement? Keep reading.

Studies have shown that women and people within ethnic minority groups are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At MAG we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles

Mark Allen Group has seven divisions: MA Agriculture, MA Business, MA Dentistry Media, MA Education & Music, MA Exhibitions, MA Financial Media, and MA Healthcare

Content is key to everything that we do, be it across print, digital, or events.

We’re not interested in fitting into what a media company is supposed to look like. We are not wallflowers. Our ever-expanding business has rapidly grown from its humble beginnings and we’re only just getting started….
