Fast-track Diploma in Journalism – City of Liverpool College

The City of Liverpool College has been producing NCTJ qualified journalists since 1991.

We currently run two 18-week fast-track courses each academic year starting in September and late January, as well as an academic year course which runs September to June.

Each course delivers a top-class grounding in the essentials required to land a job in journalism, including shorthand, media law and public affairs. Students also produce an E-Portfolio of stories.

You will learn how to plan, film and edit video packages as part of our Videojournalism module, an important skill for multimedia journalists.

Our students are guaranteed work experience, undertaking a placement at the Liverpool Echo, and also have the chance to cover events for a variety of other media outlets.

There will be guest lectures from industry professionals giving a personal insight into working in the media industry.

This course leads straight into the industry – whether it’s multimedia or broadcast journalism, marketing or public relations.

Our alumni are working for a wide range of outlets such as, The Independent, ITN News, The BBC, The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool Football Club and Global Radio.

Without studying at the City of Liverpool College I would not be able to say that I am living my dream today. The NCTJ course I studied at the college enabled me to become a fully-fledged sports journalist. The course, and its amazing tutors, helped provide me with the skills I would need and put me in the right direction to achieve my goals.
Caoimhe O'Neill, senior digital sports writer, Liverpool Echo
