Qualifications by distance learning

The NCTJ offers distance learning courses, which are perfect for those unable to study at an NCTJ-accredited, centre-based course. They are designed for UK-based learners, although we have many overseas students who complete the course.

The NCTJ offers distance learning options for the following qualifications:

  • Certificate in Foundation Journalism (Level 3)

For those looking for an introduction to journalism, the Certificate in Foundation Journalism is the perfect place to start.

You can learn the fundamentals, as well as focussing on particular areas of interest - and there are no exams to take

  • Diploma in Journalism (Level 5)

When it comes to getting your first job as a journalist, the NCTJ's Diploma in Journalism often holds the key.

As the UK's premier entry-level, professional qualification, many editors regard it as a prerequisite for new recruits and it is designed to get you ready for the rigours of the newsroom

  • National Qualification in Journalism (Level 6)

Our senior level qualification, the NQJ, is also now available to study as an e-learning course.

This is a way to demonstrate your professional skills at a higher level and to mark yourself our to your current and future employers.
