More than 20 students on the NCTJ-accredited fast-track journalism course at News Associates in Manchester contributed to election night coverage on 5 May.
Their work ran on hyper-local website, Mancunian Matters, and featured a live blog, images and videos.
The students attended every count in the Greater Manchester area and maintained a steady flow of information until the early hours of the morning, with many councils not declaring until after 5am. The students had a busy night collecting quotes and reactions, and one even prepared graphics to present alongside the results on a You Tube channel.
News Associates managing editor, James Toney complimented the students on their achievement saying: “Everyone took to the task brilliantly and I hope the exercise will prove invaluable to them, both as they approach their forthcoming public affairs examination and also as they prepare to take their first steps into the job marketplace.”
The site had more than 12,000 visitors in a 24-hour period and received praise from many local councils for its coverage. To visit the site click here.
