NCTJ director awarded fellowship of Society of Editors

NCTJ board member Ed Curran has been awarded the highest honour from the Society of Editors, being made a Fellow of the Society.

The fellowship is awarded to journalists who have made a particular contribution to upholding the aims of the SoE and the cause of freedom of the press. Ed, who edited the Belfast Telegraph for 12 years, was presented with the award at the Society's annual dinner in Belfast last week.

Ed said: "To be honoured by one's fellow editors is very special indeed. The Society of Editors held their first conference in Belfast 11 years ago when I was president and I had the honour of presenting fellowships to two legendary editors, Ben Bradlee of the Washington Post and the late Bill Deedes of the Daily Telegraph. To be considered now to join such distinguished names as a Fellow of the Society adds another dimension to this honour for which I owe particular thanks to the long-suffering people of Northern Ireland and to colleagues past and present at the Belfast Telegraph."
