Hunt for next generation of diverse journalists begins

Aspiring journalists are once again being given the chance to receive financial support and assistance on NCTJ-accredited courses, thanks to the Journalism Diversity Fund.

The search is on for budding reporters, press photographers and photojournalists who want to gain the NCTJ’s diploma in journalism qualification. Anyone interested must submit their application form, available at, by Friday, 29 April.

The industry-supported bursary scheme has so far given 101 students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to change the face of UK newsrooms.

With past recipients now working as trainee reporters at local and national newspapers, and others in radio and television broadcasting, the incentive is there for the next generation of applicants to follow in their footsteps.

The final group of bursaries in 2010 saw seven hopefuls from diverse backgrounds impress the judges with their potential and determination to succeed in the newsroom. They are now looking forward to beginning their courses early this year with the support of the Journalism Diversity Fund.

There will be four groups of bursaries awarded in 2011 and the applications deadlines for each are:

29 April 2011

1 July 2011

21 October 2011

16 December 2011
