SEO and trends writer – National World (remote)

Are you a fantastic journalist with a passion for writing great SEO content?

Do you want to be part of a collaborative team writing engaging content that covers a diverse range of subjects and answers questions on everything including the latest trending news, entertainment, leisure, lifestyle and technology?

Our audiences are growing rapidly online and we are investing in our SEO team which writes regional SEO content across a number of our titles.

You will have a demonstrable grasp of SEO and experience of writing content for search, the ability to identify search trends and a natural understanding of what makes great digital content.

You will have the hunger to learn, develop and embrace change as our business develops.

Who we are looking for:

  • Experience writing engaging content for search engines
  • A keen eye for a story and an understanding of what drives audiences
  • An understanding of how to optimise content to adhere to SEO best practice
  • Capable of producing fast and accurate copy to deadlines, and an awareness of writing different article formats, from explainers and listicles to news stories
  • Demonstrable ability to come up with original content ideas and accurately predict what readers will be searching for next
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced media environment with the organisational skills to plan ahead
  • Demonstrable familiarity with analytics tools
  • A team player: able to work closely with digital colleagues across the business


  • Strong understanding of SEO principles and best practice
  • Strong track record in producing content that works for search and provides a great experience for readers
  • Experience of working in a newsroom
  • A strong writer with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Previous experience of using a website content management system
  • A good knowledge of using social media as a means of reaching audiences
  • Experience in using SEO tools such as Google Trends, Google Search Console and Moz
  • Experience in using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, chartbeat or
  • Knowledge of media law and the Editor’s Code of Practice
