Part-time Diploma in Multimedia Journalism

Course Subject: Journalism
Course Type: Independent part-time
Centre: News Associates, Manchester
Region: North West England
Duration: 40 weeks

About the course:

News Associates courses have won the NCTJ award for best performing course for the past five years in a row. Our highly-practical courses are taught in our newsrooms in the heart of Manchester and London. We work closely with national news organisations including The Times and Sunday Times, The Financial Times, The Sun and Yahoo to train their journalists. In the academic year 2018/2019 94% of our trainees were in paid journalism jobs within a month of graduating. They land jobs as news and features writers, foreign correspondents, sports reporters and more. Our huge alumni means there’s always someone to help you with a job application, give you writing opportunities or be a friendly face on your first day in the newsroom.

If breaking news hits we scrap the timetable and get you working as journalists for our publications Mancunian Matters and South West Londoner. Our trainees have covered sporting events, royal weddings and terror attacks – and in 2019 we had 100 trainees covering the General Election at counts, presenting live broadcasts, running 24-hour live blogs and creating e-editions.

Broadcast journalism is weaved across all our modules and we are constantly changing what we teach as the media landscape evolves – from Flourish charts to Google Trends, TikTok and podcasting.

NCTJ elective modules offered:

  • Journalism for a digital audience
  • Media law court reporting
  • Public affairs for journalists
  • Shorthand

Alumni testimonial:

“I walked straight from my NCTJ course into my first job in journalism working for a national paper.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without News Associates.

“The experienced, approachable and driven tutors made the difficult course enjoyable.

“Knowing I was studying at the top journalism school gave me the confidence to apply for jobs outside my comfort zone, which led me to a national newsroom.

“I recommend News Associates to anyone who tells me they want to break into the industry.”
