Wouldn’t ‘award-winning journalist’ look great on your CV? There are a number of awards up for grabs each year for NCTJ students, apprentices and trainees.

Awards for Excellence

The Awards for Excellence highlight the achievements of individuals with promising journalism careers ahead of them.

Entries open each spring in a number of categories such as sports, news and podcast journalism.

Students, apprentices and recent graduates are encouraged to submit the work they believe deserves recognition.

Diploma in Journalism awards

These awards are presented to the top-performing candidates in the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism exams each year.

All the hours of hard work and revision will pay off, as the winners in each subject receive a cash prize of £250.

The overall top performing student each academic year is also presented with the Student of the Year award at the Awards for Excellence ceremony.

NQJ awards

These awards are presented to the top-performing trainees in the NQJ exams each year.

The winners in each subject – media law and ethics, practical journalism skills and e-logbook – receive a cash prize of £750.

The overall top performing trainee each academic year is also presented with the Trainee of the Year award at the Awards for Excellence ceremony.

Student Council

The Student Council enables NCTJ students and apprentices to communicate their views on journalism training through their elected representatives.
