Certificate in Journalism

The preliminary Certificate in Journalism qualification is designed to equip trainee journalists with the skills required to meet the needs of employers and provide trainees with the knowledge and experience to gain a job in this competitive industry.

The qualification can be gained on an NCTJ-accredited course.

For those already working in the industry or other full-time employment, block-release, day-release and the Foundation course in News Reporting (distance learning) also lead to the NCTJ Certificate in Journalism.

The qualification pathways are shown below.

The new Diploma in Journalism qualification is replacing the Certificate in Journalism and all course providers will deliver the diploma from September 2011.  However, many course providers have already confirmed that they will deliver the diploma from September 2010.
