Duration:Maximum of 6 months

The course consists of the two media law modules from the Writing for the Periodical Press course.Learners will complete the exercises at the end of each module and forward to the tutor for marking and comments. A certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.

Introduction to Newspaper Law
Duration: no time limit
Fee: £52.50 plus VAT
Part of the Foundation course in news reporting, this module covers defamation, hierarchy of the courts and procedure in magistrates', youth and coroners' courts, reporting crime stories and legal proceedings.
Learners can complete the self-assessment tasks and use this module to prepare for the media law exams - part of the NCTJ's certificate in journalism qualification.

Introduction to Local Government
Duration: no time limit
Fee: £52.50 plus VAT
Part of the Foundation course in news reporting, this course introduces you to the complex world of local government and indicates how best to cover local government stories.
Learners can complete the self-assessment tasks and use this module to prepare for the public affairs: local government exam - part of the NCTJ's certificate in journalism qualification.

Introduction to Central Government
Duration: no time limit
Fee: £52.50 plus VAT
Part of the Foundation course in news reporting, this course includes the role of the monarchy; the stages in the legislative process; the different government ministers and the main institutions of the European Union.
Learners can complete the self-assessment tasks and use this module to prepare for the public affairs: central government exam - part of the NCTJ's certificate in journalism qualification.
