Day release - Newspaper Journalism

Course Subject: News Journalism (Multiplatform)
Course Type: Other
Centre: Glasgow Clyde College
Region: Scotland
Duration: 20 weeks
Description:

Since the launch of Cardonald College's journalism course in 1995 we've continually worked to give people eager to carve out a career in journalism a challenging and interesting course which remains useful and relevant in the newsroom. The course is rooted in what editors tell us they want from a journalist, and there is no doubt that this was boosted by our NCTJ accredited status. The vast majority of students move straight into journalism, from local papers across Scotland to broadsheets, television and radio.

NCTJ training is offered by Glasgow Clyde College on a day-release basis. To gain the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism candidates must cover five areas of study. Students are encouraged to study for the full diploma, but can undertake any or all of the fields of study according to individual preference and need. The five areas studied are:

  • Media law, including Essential Media Law and Court Reporting
  • Public affairs
  • Shorthand, from beginners up to 100wpm
  • Essential Journalism, including the Essential Journalism exam and portfolio
  • Business of magazines
