MA/PgDip Sports Journalism

St.Mary's University College has teamed up with News Associates and Sportsbeat to deliver this innovative journalism training course. Each year, 20 students will follow an intensive training programme in print, broadcast and online journalism. Our main aim is to produce adaptable, multiskilled journalists who can succeed in one of the most competitive and rapidly evolving industries in the world. This course includes work placements in the local and national media and the opportunity to produce documentaries. They will be taught and mentored by highly experienced sports journalists and former BBC broadcasters. All our students will have the rare opportunity to carry out match reports and interviews at nationally and internationally televised sporting events and study alongside elite athletes training for London 2012. We also aim to develop a strong critical awareness among our students about the complex world of sport, business, politics and the media. Those applying should normally hold an honours degree in any subject from a recognized further or higher education institution or an equivalent qualification. However, relevant professional experience will be taken into account.
