Team spirit, a lot of cheering, and six breathless dashes around Cambridge University’s beautiful colleges – what a great way to spend a sunny Sunday morning! Chariots of Fire is one of Cambridgeshire’s largest annual charity events, and on 22 September, the NCTJ Newshounds ran in the 22-year-old race to help raise funds for the Papworth Trust.
The 1.7-mile course follows in the footsteps of the Oscar-winning film, with teams of six each running in relay format. Our team was made up of Joanne Butcher, Chris Elliott, Dave King, Shevon Houston, Michelle Lewis and Lisa Nelson, and we had lots of support from our friends, family and colleagues who came out to cheer us on. And we didn’t do badly: our collective time was 1:29.
The Papworth Trust is a leading disability charity whose mission is to support disabled people to have equality, choice and independence.
