NCE awards
There are seven different awards for candidates of the reporters National Certificate Examination (NCE). Four are presented after each exam cycle (three a year), and there are also three annual awards, given out at the end of the academic year.
NCE AWARDS
- Society of Editors’ Award for the best performance in the news interview exam.
- The Esso Award for the best performance in the news report exam
- The Ted Bottomley Award for the best performance in the newspaper practice exam
- The Newsquest Award for the best logbook.
ANNUAL NCE AWARDS
- The Pamela Meyrick Award is presented annually, by Nicola Meyrick, daughter of Pamela for the best NCE candidate working on a newspaper in the North of England or North Wales.
- The Eric Dobson Award is presented by the North East Press Awards in autumn each year. Worth £150 cash to the winner, it goes to the best NCE candidate working on a newspaper in the area of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and Cleveland. The award is sponsored by Robson Brown.
- The TS Murray Award is presented annually by the Scottish Society of Editors to the best-performing candidate employed by a Scottish newspaper.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
There are two awards for candidates of the photographers and photojournalist’s National Certificate Examination (NCE). The awards are presented annually after the November NCE.
PHOTOGRAPHY NCE AWARDS
Fuji Award for the Best Portfolio (prize is a Fuji compact digital camera) is presented to the candidate who submits the best portfolio.
South Wales Argus Award for the Best Advance Project (£100 and certificate) is presented to the best advanced project from the National Certificate Examination held in both May and November.
