NQJ awards

There are six awards for candidates in the National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ) exams.

Four are presented after each exam cycle (three a year), and there are also three annual awards.

Subject awards


  • Society of Editors’ Award for the best performance in the news interview exam

  • The Esso Award for the best performance in the news report exam

  • The Media Law Award for the best performance in the media law and practice exam

  • The Newsquest Award for the best logbook


Annual NQJ awards


  • The annual Paul Durrant Award is presented by Archant to a journalist from the East of England for the best performance in the NQJ. The winner receives £250 and a certificate of achievement
