Diploma awards

Have you done exceptionally well in an NCTJ exam? A Diploma in Journalism award awaits the highest achieving student in the following subjects.

Presented at the Student Council forum in February, all winners will be invited to collect their prize directly from the sponsor who wants to reward your achievement.

Previous hosts of the NCTJ Student Council include the BBC Academy, Sky Sports News, Google, News UK, Pearson and MSN. The subjects and sponsors of the diploma awards can be found below.

To celebrate your success you will receive £250 to spend in any way you like along with your NCTJ certificate. All the hours of hard work and revision will be worth it and ‘NCTJ award winner’ will look great on your CV.

Shorthand 100 wpm

The Society of Editors shorthand award is presented to the student who submitted the best shorthand note and transcription which was marked as 100 per cent accurate at a speed of 100wpm. The prize consists of a cheque for £250 and a certificate. 

Shorthand 110/120 wpm

The Sky Sports News shorthand award is presented to the student who submits the best shorthand note and transcription which was marked as 100 per cent accurate at a speed of 110 or 120wpm. The prize consists of a cheque for £250 and a certificate. 

Sports journalism

The Premier League sports journalism award is presented to the student with the best performance in the sports journalism exam during the academic year. The prize consists of a cheque for £250 and a certificate.

The winner will also be invited to visit IMG Studios, which is the home of Premier League Productions.

Videojournalism for online

The Archant videojournalism award is presented to the student with the best performance in the videojournalism for online exam during the academic year. The winner receives a certificate and cheque for £250.
